A design-build approach

The architectural projects presented in this portfolio depict a unified flow of work from initial concept through completion of construction, best described with the term “design-build.”

Design-build is an alternative to the conventional approach in which design and construction are split into non-interactive processes, involving separate personnel, separate contracts, and separate work. Design-build fosters collaboration and teamwork between designers and builders, creating an ongoing alliance that emphasizes consistent carry-through from initial concept to finished detail.

My role in the architectural/construction teams that completed these projects has varied according to demand and context. My approach has been to bring forward the skills most needed in the project: this has ranged from project management, to conceptual architectural design, to custom furniture design, and in some cases has involved all three.

Now based in Los Angeles, he has focused on high-end residential and commercial projects (in West Hollywood, Silver Lake, Beverly Hills, Palm Springs, as well as Panama City and Hawaii), having previously realized residential projects in the historical center of Rome and in Bordeaux, France, in collaboration with Script Atelier d’Achitecture.
